Deakin University was established in the 1970s as one of the new generation of Australian universities. Named after Alfred Deakin, Australia’s second Prime Minister, Deakin combines a university’s traditional focus on excellent teaching and research with a desire to seek new ways of developing and delivering courses. Deakin has won several awards for its teaching and learning excellence – testament to its excellent facilities, flexible learning options and courses which are informed by industry professionals. Today, Deakin University is one of Australia’s most progressive universities, internationally recognised for its courses and rapidly increasing research profile.

Deakin University has four campuses – one in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, two in the port city of Geelong just south of Melbourne, and one in Warrnambool on the south-west coast of Victoria.

Deakin’s distinctive features

Multi award winner
Deakin has won the prestigious Australian University of the Year award twice and was also commended with six Citations for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning at the 2009 Australian Learning and Teaching Council Awards.

Courses valued by industry
Deakin maintains close links with government, leading corporations and professional associations, ensuring that our courses are relevant, practical and deliver the skills in demand, allowing our graduates to ‘hit the ground running’. Deakin also offers internship/practical placements for many academic areas. Most internship placements are worth one Deakin credit and make up a quarter of a normal full time load. Students usually undertake the internship one or two days per week during the trimester.

Flexible learning
Deakin’s courses are flexible so you can tailor your degree to match your career goals. Off-campus, online or part-time study options give you plenty of options to choose how to structure your course. You can choose from a diverse range of course areas including architecture, business, information systems, health, biology, international relations, politics, Australian studies, psychology, performing arts and many more. Study Abroad students are eligible to take any units (courses) offered at Deakin provided you meet the pre-requisites. A normal full time load at Deakin is four units which usually equals four Deakin credits. An official Deakin University academic transcript will be issued upon the completion of your studies. This transcript will usually be sent to the transcript address you provide on the application form or to your international office.

Young and innovative, with excellent facilities
Established in the 1970s as one of the new generation of Australian universities, Deakin combines a university’s traditional focus on excellent teaching and research with a desire to seek new ways of developing and delivering courses. Deakin provides access to the latest industry-standard facilities such as Deakin’s Motion.Lab at the Melbourne Campus at Burwood and the Geelong Technology Precinct at the Geelong Campus at Waurn Ponds.

International focus
Our students come from all over the world and can study on every continent via study abroad and exchange programs. These programs enable Deakin students to become global citizens and develop a richer cultural perspective.

Metropolitan and regional campuses
Deakin has campuses in Melbourne, Geelong and Warrnambool, providing convenience and accessibility whether you want to study in regional or rural Victoria or in the city. The Geelong campus is located 15 minutes from Australia’s surf coast, in a town of 220,000 yet only an hour by train from Melbourne. The campus has 4,500 students with a comprehensive range of courses. We also have Warrnambool with just 1,000 students in a town of 30,000 on the coast, three hours from Melbourne by train or car. If Marine Sciences or any water-based study is your thing then this is the place for you, however this campus also offers a full range of Arts, Sciences, Education and Business courses. If big city life is more your style then the Melbourne campus at Burwood might be just the place for you. While the campus is located in Melbourne’s green, eastern suburbs, you certainly don’t need to travel to the city to find things to do….the tram passes through some great urban villages. If you are into the Contemporary Arts (Dance, Drama, Photography, Film, Visual Arts) then this is a great place for you. This campus also offers a full range of courses, in Arts, Sciences, Health, Business and Education.
