City Las Vegas 89Las Vegas, found in 1905, is located in the U.S. state of Nevada and the county seat of Clark County. It is the most populous city in Nevada. Las Vegas is an internationally renowned major resort city known primarily for gambling, shopping, fine dining, and nightlife, and is the leading financial and cultural center for Southern Nevada.

The city is famous for its consolidated casino-hotels and associated entertainment and names itself as "The Entertainment Capital of the World". With a population of 583,756 (2010) in the main city a population of 1,951,269 (2010) in the metropolitan area Las Vegas is the 31st-most populous city in the United States. Besides its desirability for international tourists, Las Vegas is also one of the top three leading destinations in the United States for conventions, business, and meetings.

The city is home to several museums including the Neon Museum and many of the historical signs from the valley, The Las Vegas Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement, the Las Vegas Natural Histroy Museum, Lied Discovery Children's Museum, National Atomic Testing Museum and the Old Las Vegas Mormon State Historic Park

On the first Friday of each month, the "First Friday" celebration is held, which exhibits the works of local artists and musicians in a section of the city's Downtown region called the "Arts District".
