Wroclaw University of Economics provides an attractive setting for a wonderful summer school experience. The summer school’s topic is Service Science and Enterprise Modeling (SSEM), hence addressing a range of relevant and exciting subjects. It is organized by the Wroclaw University of Economics within the IS:link network, in close collaboration with the University of Duisburg-Essen and the University of Leipzig. The summer schooloffers an inspiring mix of classes, activities and excursions

Course Content

The summer school covers three related subject areas that are of substantial relevance both in IS research and in business practice: Service Economy and Service Science, Business Processes and Enterprise Modeling and Service Systems Engineering. In the first area the course focuses on social, economic and technological aspects of services. The second subject area focuses on issues related to information system development in its entire life-cycle. The last area covers selected aspects of development and use of service-oriented information systems.

Service Economy and Service Science

  • What are services - definitions, classifications and examples
  • The essence and scope of service economy
  • The background, goals and main players of service science
  • Distinction between service-dominant (S-D) and goods-dominant (G-D) logic, and influences on service systems 
  • IT dimension of services 
  • The Future of Service Systems 

Business Processes and Enterprise Modeling

  • Motivation: the need for conceptual models
  • Limitations of general purpose modeling languages
  • Multi-perspective enterprise modeling
  • Modeling and analysing business process models
  • Enterprise modeling as a foundation for method engineering

Service Systems Engineering

  • Cloud Computing
  • Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) 
  • Software as a Service (SaaS) 
  • Web Services

Prerequisites

Introduction to Information Systems and Introduction to Information Technology. Good grasp of English enabling discussions and presentations.

Course Credits

There will be a written exam at the end of the summer school. On successful completion 6 ECTS will be granted. You may also choose to participate as a noncredit student.

There are 3 types of fees available as follows:

  • The costs for 12 days of tuition, accommodation (Arrival: Sunday, 9th September; Departure: Friday, 21th September), meals, and social events: 250 EUR
  • The costs for 12 days of tuition, accommodation (Arrival: Sunday, 9th September; Departure: Friday, 21th September) without meals, and social events: 200 EUR
  • The costs for 12 days of tuition, meals, and social events without accommodation: 150 EUR

COST FOR STUDENTS FROM COUNTRIES OUTSIDE EUROPE (NOT WITHIN ERASMUS 
PROGRAMME)

There are 3 types of fees available as follows:

  • The costs for 12 days of tuition, accommodation (Arrival: Sunday, 9th September; Departure: Friday, 21th September), meals, and social events: 400 EUR
  • The costs for 12 days of tuition, accommodation (Arrival: Sunday, 9th September; Departure: Friday, 21th September) without meals, and social events: 350 EUR
  • The costs for 12 days of tuition, meals, and social events without accommodation: 300 EUR
